Today I babysat for a new friend's little 9 month old boy while she took the 5 year old on a date to the movies. Yes, I already am babysitting...I actually babysat the week we arrived for this same person! :) Can't escape it! Anyway, it was just me and the little peanut and I decided...let's paint! Because well, it's my favorite activity to do with these itty bitty ones. Not only do they normal manage to make a beautiful piece of artwork, it's great for sensory exploration! I made the paint today with equal parts flour, salt, and water then added food coloring using the primary colors red, yellow, and blue. If I have to choose 3 colors I almost always choose those 3 because they typically blend very well and create beautiful paintings. Now, this recipe is actually a foam paint recipe and is intended for squeeze bottles and to dry thicker but since he was only 9 months old and they were the only ingredients I could find in their house, I just let him finger paint with it :) The best part about this was he could eat it, we must explore with multiple senses, and it didn't really matter as it was just flour, salt, and water. Although, I've had plenty of kids eat non-toxic paint and they are just fine. That's why they make it non-toxic, right? :)
